“ Iconic. A literal do not miss. Honestly - read no further. ---- Let's have a little chat folks, actually just you 700 reviews a year folks with a "badge"... legit - if you don't think this place is 5 stars for what it is, get your freaking heads examined. Nobody cares that your server didn't meet your (faux) professional reputation. This place is packed 7 days a week because... wait for it... it's special. The pizza is the best Detroit pizza made (sorry, your local place isn't better, it's not, stop lying to your self) , the ambiance is literally 10/10, staff is nice if you treat them nice. Sausage sandwich - unreal. Steak sandwich - unique and worth a taste. Yeah maybe one person has a bad day here or there but... seriously... just shut up, but down your keyboard, and just move on. It's called life. We come to Detroit all the time. We would literally never miss coming here on any trip. Us and the other billion people a week who frequent the best pizza place probably in the United States. ”
“ The service was great. The salad and pizza were very good. We will be back. This was my first time there. ”
“ Detroit pizza classic. I think the founder was a chef from the original Buddy's. Also this location is a time capsule, not much have change since they open. Pizza is great, especially when u dine in, I think the big difference between Lou's pizza and others are how crispy the edges are, also they have good ingredients too. I do like more sauce on my pizza so I wish they have more tomato sauce. Other menu items are great too if pizza is too much for you. Homemade ravioli, one of the best I ever had. And I been told their sandwich is great too. ”
“ I love Loui's. It's my go-to spot for taking out of town guests. It's located in a rather industrial area-the restaurant is flanked by auto repair shops and the like, so it's easy to miss. However, over the weekend, you can see it's one of the only buildings that has a completely full parking lot. Having eaten a lot of Detroit-style pizza, I would say that Loui's is one of the best. It's on the heavier side, with the Cheese and Pepperoni pizza having a 1:1 ratio of cheese to crust thickness. It makes for an amazing cheese pull. The cheese is amazingly crispy, and the crust is well-developed, although some areas were weighed down with the sheer mass of cheese on top. I could only manage one slice before calling it quits. I also sampled the cheese, pepperoni, mushrooms, green peppers, onions, and ham pizza. It was somehow taller than the cheese and pepperoni pizza, although I suspect it was because the weight of the toppings that indented the middle of the pizza. The amount of toppings makes it hard to taste anything given the flood of cheese. We also got a medium antipasto salad, enough for four people. The vinaigrette wasn't too sour, and the chunks of cheese and salami were abundant. There were also generous slices of tomato on top which were seasoned with salt and pepper. It came out fast, so it whet our appetites while the pizzas were cooking. ”
“ All I can say is this: the hype is real. On August 21, 2024, I read an article on the Detroit Free Press: "Online review platform Yelp released its first list of the top 100 pizza spots in the Midwest. A local spot took top honors, and plenty of other metro Detroit pizzerias rounded out the list. Coming in the No. 1 spot on Yelp's Top 100 Midwest pizzas is, drum roll, please, Loui's Pizza, 23141 Dequindre Road in Hazel Park." I had to go take a look and take a bite, I got me a 'Cheese, Sausage & Mushroom' and I was not prepared for what came next. The first bite sent me to another realm, the textures of the sauce and meat, with the soft, melted, abundant cheese mixing perfectly with the dough underneath, framed by the most perfectly baked crust I have ever eaten, at times, feeling like the crust was a dish by itself, toasty, crunchy, full of cheese and butter flavor, complementing every bite to absolute perfection. Stop reading, go get it. And get ready for a carnival in your mouth! ”
“ When I tell you that Loui's is THE best Detroit style pizza, I mean it. I've been coming to this family-owned gem since I was a child, like my father before me. The ambiance hasn't changed, keeping its authentic charm. You're greeting with photos of old school celebrity photos from times past. Many of the staff members have been there for as long as I can remember. I don't live in MI anymore, but it gives me a sense of home after visiting to know that some things remain the same. My recommendation: A pepperoni pizza with an antipasto salad (sauce on the side). ”
“ Flew into Detroit at 12..... first time visitor so I wanted to try some Detroit style pizza. Online reviews said Loui's was the place to check out. Was starving by the time we arrived at 2pm! Dang airport baggage claim and traffic! Upon arrival you can tell that It has not been updated in a long long time! But thats what makes this place great! Its ambience and local cult following. Antipasto was highly recommended! And man with my stomach growling it hit the spot. Lots of dressing, and meat! Tomatoes were perfectly ripe. The small pizza is huge. I am a big guy and only finished half. Loved the corners with the crunchy texture. Sauce was good not great. Cheese was good but you better eat it fast! Once the cheese cools you have to do some more chewing! Look forward to my next visit to Detroit so I can come back and add a bottle to the ambience! ”
“ Once you walk in, it's like you traveled back in time to the 70s lol... the chairs and the tables look like they were there since they opened. Self seating (at least during lunch on weekday). We went with small pizza, med antipasto salad with Italian dressing and small spaghetti with meatballs. The pizza is where it's at, the curst was awesome and having ordered the small, you got your four corner pizza, so no fighting. Though we over did it on the toppings, it was good. The med salad could have fed 3-4 people, the Italian dressing was awesome, but too much cheese. The spaghetti was decent, the noodles were over cooked, sauce was ok, but the meatball was delicious. The level of the service will depend on who you get... our waitress was awesome. ”
